The International Human Rights Law track is open to U.S. and foreign law graduates and lawyers who are either beginning their study of International Human Rights Law, or who have prior study or work experience in the area. International Human Rights Law is broad, and focuses on each person being afforded a wide range of human rights, including civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights. Because of the breadth, and the scope of international human rights law and its impact and reach, the LL.M. track in International Human Rights Law helps to prepare lawyers for practice in a wide range of international and domestic employment scenarios, including the following fields:
- general international law
- international criminal law
- international humanitarian law
- public international law
- international intellectual property law
- international trade law
Employment opportunities might include working for and with:
- U.S. governmental bodies such as the Departments of State, Labor, USAID, Homeland Security & Commerce
- governmental bodies of other countries
- multi-national corporations
- private law firms
- intellectual property concerns
- human rights advocates
- the United Nations and other inter-governmental organizations
- international war crimes and other special tribunal
