Security & Etiquette Policies

Building Access

No one may enter the Law School Building, Lawrence W. Inlow Hall, without a JagTag after 9:00pm. Those entering before 9:00pm may use the library until closing. Persons entering the Law School building during evening hours (beginning at 6:30 p.m.) or on weekends should use the New York St. entrance and must either display their JagTag or sign in and display photo identification at the reception desk.

Security

The library uses a security system which will sound if library materials are removed without being checked out.  If the alarm sounds the user is requested to return to the circulation desk.  In order to protect the library collection, as well as patrons' rights to use library materials, briefcases and containers may be checked as each person leaves the library.

Destruction, Damage or Mutilation or Library Property

The willful or reckless destruction, damage or mutilation of any library materials or other library property is strictly forbidden and may be punished by suspension or expulsion.

No Cell Phone Usage, Food, Beverage, or Tobacco

  • Library users are expected to work quietly. Please step outside into the atrium lounge for conversations or use a study room for group study.
  • Cell phones and pagers may not be used in the Law Library to make or receive calls or to check messages. Please turn off the ring feature on your cell phone or pager so the noise doesn’t disturb other patrons. Cell phone conversations should be carried on outside the Law Library.
  • Food, including candy and other snacks, is not permitted in the Library. Food residue attracts insects and roaches which stay to eat the books. Beverages may only be brought into the Library in spill-proof containers like car cups. Please note that Styrofoam or paper cups with lids and water or soda bottles with screw type caps do not qualify as spill-proof containers.
  • The Library does not page patrons nor take messages.
  • Fire alarm drills periodically occur. Everyone must leave the library immediately when the fire alarm sounds.

Reshelving

Please reshelve books after you use them. Materials should go spine upward on the shelves.

Please do not refile microforms after you use them. Place in containers on top of microform cabinets, and library staff will refile them.

Library books are reshelved throughout the day. Our reshelving policy applies to all types of material left in carrels or on tables. Due to the need to make materials available for as many users as possible, "save" signs or "do not reshelve" signs cannot be honored. If you must leave the library for a short period of time (two hours or less) and will be using the books immediately upon your return, you may leave a note on the books stating the present time and the notation "Back in less than 2 hours."

Telephone Use

Public telephones are available outside the front doors of the library. Patrons may not use library telephones.
