Dear Students,

Welcome to the 2009-2010 Health Law Society (HLS) website!  Our organization strives to promote and facilitate increased understanding about the health law field within the School community.  HLS has some exciting new plans for the upcoming year, and we hope that you will join us!  New members are always welcome.

This year HLS plans on holding monthly membership meetings to provide students with the opportunity to network with each other, as well as engage with an esteemed guest speaker.  Featured speakers will come from a range of relevant backgrounds, including both attorneys and medical professionals.  We are also in the process of renewing last year’s successful Health Law Mentor Program, in which we work with the Hall Center for Law And Health’s Steering Committee to pair HLS members with experienced health law attorneys practicing in the Indianapolis area.

Please also be sure to regularly check our bulletin board above the mail folders for information on additional activities.  These include a follow-up to our OCI Health Law Career Panel, slated for January, this time comprised of attorneys from the non-profit sector and academia.  Back by popular demand this year will be Dr. Chuck Dietzen, founder and president of the Timmy Foundation, to share his experiences and thoughts on global health and justice issues.  This event is to be followed by an opportunity to support the Timmy Foundation through a philanthropic project.  We are also working to finalize a December philanthropy event in conjunction with Riley Children’s Hospital.

We look forward to meeting you soon at one of these programs and getting you involved!

Warm regards,
