Hon. Dan Coats has been appointed to the board of directors of NanoInk, Inc., an emerging growth technology company specializing in nanometer-scale manufacturing and applications development for the life science and semiconductor industries.
1973
R. Thomas Bodkin, a partner with Bamberger, Foreman, Oswald & Hahn, LLP has been awarded the distinction of Indiana Super Lawyer in 2008 by Law and Politics Media. He is a a defense and trial attorney with concentrated experience in the defense of claims for medical malpractice, condemnation, commercial product liability, civil rights and employment law claims, municipal law issues, construction, contract and utility law.
1974
Mark T. McDermott has been appointed as this year's legislative chairman for the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys. He is a past president of the Academy and practices law in Washington, D.C.
Gregory J. Utken, an attorney at Baker & Daniels is a recipient of the Leadership in Law Award by the Indiana Lawyer. He co-chairs the firm's diversity and inclusion committee and serves on the firm's executive committee. He has served on the advisory board for the Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis and been involved in numerous other community organizations.
1975
Randall K. Craig was named an Indiana Super Lawyer by Law and Politics media. He was also named to that list in 2007. He practices law in Evansville, Indiana.
1976
John Krauss to Lead the IU Public Policy Institute. Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) has established the Indiana University Public Policy Institute. John L. Krauss , an adjunct professor of law and 1976 graduate of the law school, will direct the Institute. Located near the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus, the new Institute will serve as an umbrella organization for research centers affiliated with the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs, including: The Center for Urban Policy and the Environment; the Center for Health Policy, and the newly formed Center for Criminal Justice Research. It also will support the Office of International Community Development and the Indiana Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations. Krauss is a SPEA faculty member and former Indianapolis deputy mayor. Krauss and his team of researchers recently staffed the Kernan-Shepard Commission on Local Government Reform.

David A. Haist has been inducted into the Indiana Academy for his lifetime achievement and contribution to Indiana. The Academy recognizes individuals for their leadership, achievement and philanthropy that furthers development of business, public service, higher education, the arts and sciences, literature and the general culture of Indiana. Haist is executive vice president and chief operating officer of Do It Best Corp., a $3 billion member-owned international hardware and building materials cooperative headquartered in Fort Wayne. He is also chair of the Parkview Hospital Board, and is former chair of the Manchester College Board of Trustees and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic.

Bryce H. Bennett, Jr., a founding partner in Riley, Bennett & Egloff has been re-elected for a second term as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Better Business Bureau of Central Indiana. He is also Treasurer of the Board of the Arts Council of Indianapolis.
1979
Caryl E. Delano was appointed as a bankruptcy judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida, Tampa Division. She is a member of the Florida Bar, the State Bar of California, the Business Law Section of the Florida Bar, the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Federal Bar Association, the Hillsborough County Bar Association, and the Tampa Bay Bankruptcy Bar Association.

Raymond M. Kirtley, equity partner at Kirtley, Taylor, Sims, Chadd & Minnette, P.C. has joined the National Arbitration Forum's national panel of independent and neutral arbitrators and mediators. He is a certified Indiana Civil Mediator with service as Judge of the Montgomery County Court, Indiana Senior Judge, a Montgomery County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and an Attorney for the Montgomery County Department of Public Welfare Division. Prior to his association with the law firm, he served as Vice-President and Trust Officer at the Community Trust & Investment Company. He is involved in his local community, serving the City of Crawfordsville as Councilman, the Crawfordsville Public Library Building and Preservation Corporation, the United Way and the Mongomery County Family Crisis Shelter as a board member.

He practices mainly in the areas of estate planning and administration, elder law matters, agriculture, and counseling of family-owned businesses. He is certified as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation.
Lacy Johnson, attorney and partner with Ice Miller, LLP was recently elected to the Indiana University Foundation Board of Directors. At Ice Miller, Johnson serves as lobbyist and public affairs counsel to the sports, entertainment, and gaming industries.
1986
Chris Braun, a senior partner with Plews Shadley Racher & Braun, LLP, has been selected by the American College of Environmental Lawyers (ACOEL) as the leading environmental lawyer in the state of Indiana. Membership in the ACOEL, a professional association of distinguished private sector lawyers from across the United States who practice environmental law, is limited to one environmental attorney per State and is by invitation only. In addition to serving as long-time General Counsel for the Indiana Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association , Braun has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis since 2000 and currently serves on various not-for-profit boards.
Debra McVicker Lynch, of counsel at Taft Stettinius & Hollister, has been appointed the new magistrate judge for the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Indiana. In additional to practicing antitrust and litigation law, Lynch is an adjunct professor at Indiana School of Law – Indianapolis, teaching a complex litigation course.
Jonna Kane MacDougall was reappointed president of Outrun the Sun, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of the risk factors related to sun exposure and to raising funds for melanoma research and education. The fourth annual Outrun the Sun Race Against Melanoma took place on June 7 on the IUPUI campus and garnered record attendance. The OTS Race Against Melanoma is the largest evening event of its kind in the country.

Steven M. Crell, a partner at Cohen Garelick & Glazier, was elected President of Hooverwood Nursing Home. Crell’s term runs through June 2009.

Joseph David Calderon, a partner at Bose McKinney & Evans LLP, has been elected to the United Way of Central Indiana's board as Hamilton County advisor.
1991
Stephen K. Tesmer joins Attorney General Carter’s Office as Deputy Attorney General for the State of Indiana. He has joined the appeals division of the office. Tesmer previously served as Chief Deputy Prosecutor in Washington, Jefferson and Switzerland Counties.
1992
Clint W. Murphy is the new engineering principal in charge of North American operations for Jafza South Carolina, LLC. He is located in Dubai.
Jeffrey Salmon joins Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP, an intellectual law firm, as special counsel. He will focus on patent prosecution, strategic counseling, transactional matters, licensing and litigation.
1995
Kathleen I. Hart has succeeded to the presidency of the Federal Bar Association, Indianapolis Chapter for 2008-2009. Previously she has served as secretary and vice president. She is a partner in Bose, McKinney & Evans' Litigation Group and handles a variety of commercial and business disputes, including contract, non-competition, trade secret, banking, mortgage, insurance, tort, real estate, fraud, and employment litigation matters.
1996
Gerald W. Roberts has been elected to partnership status at Thompson & Knight. A member of Thompson & Knight's Intellectual Property Practice Group in Dallas, Roberts focuses his practice on complex business litigation, including litigation involving patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, and other forms of intellectual property, and unfair competition. He also has more than ten years of experience as an electrical engineer and engineering manager, has held a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance, and is a registered patent attorney in the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Chen-Ming Yang was appointed to be the Director General of the Bureau of International Cooperation (BIC), Department of Health (DOH), Taiwan. The BIC oversees the international affairs of DOH, including bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and international medical aid. The office is also responsible for communicating with health related NGOs and international organizations, such as the World Health Organization, the World Trade Organization, and other such entities. In addition, the BIC also facilitates the successful implementation of health related international regulations and conventions in Taiwan. In addition to his J.D. from the law school, he holds a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and an M.D. from Taipei Medical University in Taiwan. Before joining the BIC he worked in several medical positions, including vice superintendent of Taipei Municipal Wan Fang Hospital, chief of staff of Taipei Medical University, and deputy executive officer of Taiwan Joint Commission of Hospital Accreditation. Most recently he was an associate professor of School of Health Care Administration, Taipei Medical University. Yang is also board certified to be a nuclear medicine specialist in Taiwan.

Sandra Sovinski Drummond has been named Managing Partner of Myers & Kaplan, Intellectual Property Law, LLC’s new Orlando, Florida office. The Florida practice will focus on patents, copyrights, trademarks, and other intellectual property matters, including prosecution, litigation, and transactional matters.
Gretchen K. Gutman, a partner at Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP, has been selected as Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs’ (SPEA) 2008 Distinguished Alumna of the Year.
2000
Indianapolis attorney Tanya Bell has been named CEO of Indiana Black Expo (IBE). A member of IBE board of directors for six years, Bell oversaw the reorganization of the 12 statewide chapters into separate 501(c)3 tax-exempt entities to encourage local giving. Previously, Bell was assistant general counsel for Community Health Network. She has also taught as a legal writing professor at the law school.
2001
Katherine A. Harmon, a lawyer with Cohen & Malad, LLP has become a Certified Family Law Specialist. She concentrates her practice in the firm’s Family Law Group, with emphasis on such areas as adoption, child support and modifications, divorce and legal separation and protective orders.
Matthew T. Klein, an associate at Bose, McKinney & Evans, LLP, was appointed to the Indianapolis Greenways Development Committee (IGDC). Previously, he served Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels as assistant commissioner for compliance and enforcement for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM). He also worked on environmental and litigation matters as an associate of Kroger Gardis & Regas, LLP. Additionally, Klein serves as chairman of the government practice section of the Indianapolis Bar Association and is chair-elect of the Indiana State Bar Association's environmental law section.

Elizabeth B. Howard has been awarded a BV Peer Review Rating by LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell. She is a member of the construction litigation practice group at Rogers Towers, P.A..
Elizabeth B. Howard, an associate in the Construction Group at Rogers Towers, P.A. in Jacksonville, Florida where she concentrates her practice on complex construction litigation, has been inducted as an associate member of the Chester Bedell American Inn of Court. She is also a member of the Board of Governors for the Jacksonville Bar Association's young lawyers section.
Jimmie L. McMillian, Jr., an associate at Barnes & Thornburg, was recently named to the Indianapolis Business Journal's "Forty Under 40" list for 2008. He practices primarily on product liability claims, personal injury lawsuits, contract disputes and criminal defense matters. McMillian is a certified civil mediator and is president of the Marion County Bar Association. In 2006, he was one of 25 attorneys selected for the Indianapolis Bar Association's Bar Leader Series. He was recently appointed deputy chief of staff of the National Bar Association. He is active in Reach for Youth Inc.'s Teen Court Program and serves on its board.

C. Gregory Sharer has been named vice president for student affairs at SUNY Cortland, where he will be responsible for providing vision and leadership for the Division of Student Affairs and its offices and programs. Sharer will oversee 18 offices and a 120-member staff within the division.
Angela Stull, has been working as a Consular Immigration Liaison for the British Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan since 2005. She works in the visa section of the embassy and deals with victims of forced marriage, reluctant sponsors, vulnerable adults and abandoned spouses.
Chastity Thompson, assistant dean for professional development at the law school, has been selected to write a section of a new book on Indiana Supreme Court Justices. In March, she was a presenter at the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) conference in New York. In May, she completed the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Bar Leader Series, Class V, and she has also been installed as the president of the Chi Chi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Additionally, she is a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Diversity Job Fair committee.

Kelly J. Green has joined Taft Law as an associate. She is a member of the firm's Business Group, and focuses her practice on health care related matters. Before earning her J.D. degree, Ms. Green was a registered nurse for seven years. While at IU, she was the Executive Managing Editor and Founding Member of the Indiana Health Law Review and was also associate editor for the Indiana International & Comparative Law Review. She is on the Board of Directors for the Indiana Society of Healthcare Risk Managers, where she serves as secretary. She is also actively involved in many other health care related professional organizations including: the American Health Lawyers Associations, Health Care Compliance Association, and Executive Women in Healthcare.
Alex C. Intermill, an associate at Bose McKinney & Evans, LLP was named an "Up and Coming Lawyer" by the Indiana Lawyer. He works with environmental and real estate issues, including litigation and administrative appeals, wetland development, acquisition and sales of real property, easement issues, remediation and securing funds for environmental cleanup from the Excess Liability Trust Fund (ELTF). He also serves as town attorney for the town of Pendleton, where he assists with annexation, development of the town's industrial park, zoning and land use and utility matters.

Josh Lee is a volunteer with the Indianapolis Bar Association's pro bono program that provides emergency legal service to hospice patients and their families. He works as Director of Advanced Gifts at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
Justin W. Leverton, an associate in Bose, McKinney & Evans' Business Services Group, where he represents his clients in business and commercial lending transactions, has joined the Sertoma Club of Indianapolis.

Kimberly Richardson has been selected as one of the nation’s “Top 40 Under 40,” by The Network Journal for outstanding achievement, contribution, leadership and influence in the corporate arena and service to the African-American community.
2007
Bobak P. Jalaie has joined Woodard, Emhardt, Moriarty, McNett and Henry LLP as an associate. His practice is focused on intellectual property law.
In Memoriam
Jane Kelso, '53
Jane Kelso passed away on January 12, 2007. She was the first female sports editor of her high school's newspaper in Indianapolis, and then was President of the Independent Women's Association at the University of Illinois, where she earned her bachelor's degree in 1949. At a time when women were virtually unrepresented in the legal profession, she earned her J.D. from the law school (1953), graduating at the top of her class. A life devoted to education, Jane taught 2nd and 7th grades, as well as Science, at Orchard Country Day School in Indianapolis, from 1964 to 1978. During this time, she collaborated with Dr. B.F. Skinner of Harvard University to prepare teacher materials as part of his handwriting skills program for young children. After moving to Sacramento, Jane served as Dean of Students and Director of Admissions at Pacific McGeorge from 1982 until 2001. In that role, she was an academic counselor to thousands of Pacific McGeorge students. Mrs. Kelso took a leadership role in many national legal organizations. She was associate director for a research study of part-time legal education for the Association of American Law Schools and director of a federal grant project to develop computer instructional materials related to legal problems of the elderly. From 1981 to 1983, she served as a consultant to the California Committee of Bar Examiners on performance testing. In the late 1990s, she was a member of the Students Services Committee of the ABA Section on Legal Education. She is survived by her husband, Charles Kelso, who was a professor at the Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis from 1951 to 1978.
Rachel McGeever, ‘84
Rachel McGeever passed away on Wednesday Jan 17, 2007 in Indianapolis. She was born Dec. 27, 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from Mount Mercy Academy, a Pittsburgh girls' high school operated by the Sisters of Mercy. McGeever joined that religious order in 1958 and received her B.A. at Carlow College. She subsequently taught at Cathedral High School in Pittsburgh, and later at Conestoga High School near Philadelphia. Leaving religious life in 1969, she continued her graduate studies in Philadelphia at the University of Pennsylvania, where she and Patrick McGeever met, and were married in 1970. They moved to Indianapolis in 1971, where they raised three children. Rachel graduated from the law school in 1984, and subsequently held positions at the Indiana General Assembly's Legislative Services Agency, the Indiana Bar Foundation, the Indiana Ethics Commission and the Family and Social Services Agency. She served as General Counsel of FSSA for seven years, and was made a Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Joe Kernan.
